Here we have this publication entitled The National Roll of the Great War 1914-1918 LEEDS Section VIII on CD Rom covering LEEDS.

It was produced circa 1920 by the National Publishing Company, it was the companies initial intention too produce these Rolls of Honour to cover the whole country.

However they went into liquidation not so long after they began to produce them, a total of fourteen areas were produced before the companies decline.

They are set out alphabetically by surname, they contain a variety of details about each serviceman, including medals awarded.

They also contain an address for each entry, this would be the address of either the serviceman himself or his next of kin.

HERE IS A TYPICAL EXAMPLE

HAWKSLEY R. PRIVATE WEST YORKSHIRE REGT.

He volunteered in November 1914, and in the following year was drafted overseas.  Serving with his unit on the Western Front, he was in action at Loos, Ypres and Cambrai, and was wounded at Mount Kemmel.  He returned home, and was demobilised in March 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Starand the General Service & Victory Medals.
