Here we have this publication entitled The National Roll of the Great War 1914-1918 LONDON Section III on CD Rom covering LONDON (parts of, see list for coverage)
PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME OF THE AREAS COVERED IN SECTION III ALSO APPEAR IN SECTION I AND SECTION II (BUT THE SERVICEMEN ARE NOT THE SAME ONES)
It was produced circa 1920 by the National Publishing Company, it was the companies initial intention too produce these Rolls of Honour to cover the whole country.
However they went into liquidation not so long after they began to produce them, a total of fourteen areas were produced before the companies decline.
They are set out alphabetically by surname, they contain a variety of details about each serviceman, including medals awarded.
They also contain an address for each entry, this would be the address of either the serviceman himself or his next of kin.
HERE IS A TYPICAL EXAMPLE
LYTHGOE, W.E. CORPORAL, ROYAL ENGINEERS.
He volunteered in September 1915 and in June of the following year was drafted to the Western Front, where he took part in various engagements, including those on The Somme, the Ancre fronts and Beaumont Hamel.
In December 1916, he was transfered to Salonica and was engaged on the Doiran front, The Struma and at Monastir. In May 1917 he proceeded to Egypt and Syria, where he took part in the engagments leading up to the taking of Jerusalem.
His vessel was torpedoed whilst on the the voyage to the Dardanelles. He returned home and was demobilised in July 1919, holding the General Service and Victory Medals.
