Here we have this publication entitled The National Roll of the Great War 1914-1918 on CD Rom covering the Southampton Area.
It was produced circa 1920 by the National Publishing Company, it was the companies initial intention too produce these Rolls of Honour to cover the whole country.
However they went into liquidation not so long after they began to produce them, a total of fourteen areas were produced before the companies decline.
They are set out alphabetically by surname, they contain a variety of details about each serviceman, including medals awarded.
They also contain an address for each entry, this would be the address of either the serviceman himself or his next of kin.
HERE IS A TYPICAL EXAMPLE
KING G.F Sapper R.E.
Volunteering in October 1915 he was immediately drafted to the Western Front, where he saw much active service. Later he was transferred to the East, he was stationed for a time at Corfu & afterwards took part in operations in Italy.
He was also engaged for a time on important duties in Egypt, where he remained until April 1919, and then retuned home for demobilisation, holding the 1914-15 Star & the General Service & Victory Medals.
