Norwood has had a changeable history. In its rural days it was a venue for days out to tea gardens and Beulah Spa. Then it became fashionable after the re-erection in nearby Penge of Paxton's Crystal Palace that in 1851 had housed the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park.
