Paddington, Brunel’s London terminus, has been a building of wonder since 1854. With its three arches and majestic roof, the current station replaced the Great Western Railway’s first London terminus, used since 1838. Currently with 14 platforms and the Heathrow Express link, the station is used by some 30 million people a year, some travelling to Heathrow, others as commuters to Reading, Didcot and Swindon, while many others travel to Bristol, the West Country and South Wales. Since 1863, tube passengers have travelled via Paddington’s underground stations too.

Currently the scene of major redevelopments in and around Paddington itself, this book tells the story of Paddington Station Through Time, using a mix of prints and antique photographs, as well as superb modern‐day photography illustrating just how the station has changed in the years since it was built.

Redeveloped and expanded on numerous occasions, the extensions remain faithful to the original design by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, making Paddington one of the gems of the rail network.
