Kingston is an ancient town, the scene of coronations in Saxon times and, until its assimilation into London, the country town of Surrey. Its history includes, surprisingly, the making of aircraft and, less surprisingly, boat building and brewing. During the last war it was a bolt-hole and love nest for General Eisenhower as he wrestled with the problem of invading Europe. It was also the home of such glamorous people as Elinor Glyn, Gladys, Countess de Grey, the Empress of France and Margaret Lockwood.
Many aspects of Kingston's past and present have been compressed by Kingston's most popular historian into an A-Z format which is both entertaining and informative.
