The Swindon to Gloucester Line is a new edition of the classic authoritative account of the history of the railway line between Swindon and Cheltenham.

More than 120 illustrations, accompanied by the author's informative captions capture the atmosphere and formative years of the line. The narrative retells the story the line from its planning and construction through to its opening in the 1840s and on through the years of its operation to the present day.

Locomotives, engine sheds, train services, and GWR bus services are all concisely and comprehensively described, together with GWR’s first railmotor service, which was in operation between Chalford and Stonehouse.

The book also includes chapters on the branch lines to Cirencester and Tetbury and a chapter on the various mishaps and accidents also makes for absorbing reading, offering an insight into some of the hazards that the drivers and other workers had to face.
